U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Assistant Administrator for the Bureau for Europe and Eurasia Brock Bierman will travel to Bulgaria, Romania, and Belgium, September 24-October 4.

In Plovdiv, Bulgaria, Assistant Administrator Bierman will participate in a meeting of legacy foundations in Europe and Eurasia, hosted by the America for Bulgaria Foundation. These foundations are supported by endowments from ten Enterprise Funds established by USAID after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and the breakup of the Former Soviet Union in 1991 to support the transition from centrally planned to market-based economies. The foundations continue to foster private sector development in the region and serve as enduring symbols of American generosity.

In Bucharest, Romania, Assistant Administrator Bierman will discuss USAID's Countering Malign Kremlin Influence Development Framework at an event hosted by the German Marshall Fund. He will also explore opportunities for partnership with Romanian Government officials in key frontline states such as Moldova.

In Brussels, Belgium, Assistant Administrator Bierman will highlight USAID's efforts to bolster democratic resilience in Europe and Eurasia at an event hosted by the German Marshall Fund. While in Brussels, he will also meet with officials with the European Union Directorate-General for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations to continue discussions about continued U.S.-EU collaboration and coordination.
