On Monday, October 21, 2019, at an event hosted by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), USAID and the IDB will announce a new global initiative to crowdsource, fund, and scale innovative solutions to support Venezuelans and host communities affected by the regional crisis.

USAID Assistant Administrator for Latin America and the Caribbean John Barsa will discuss the situation on the ground, USAID's response to date, and why partners and innovative solutions are needed.

IDB Lab Chief Executive Officer Irene Arias Hofman will discuss the urgency of the greatest migration crisis ever in the Hemisphere, IDB's actions to date, and how innovation can accelerate and improve the response.

A profound, man-made political, humanitarian, and economic crisis has led the people inside of Venezuela to suffer from severe shortages of food, electricity, medicine, water, and other basic needs. The crisis has also driven almost 4.5 million people to flee their country, the largest external displacement of people in the Western Hemisphere's history.
