On Wednesday, October 21, 2020, Acting Administrator John Barsa of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will participate in a virtual discussion, "Looking Back, Looking Forward: Addressing the Venezuela Migration Crisis with Innovation."

The online event is hosted by Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service, in collaboration with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and USAID. This virtual event will shed light on the Venezuela regional crisis, how USAID and IDB are responding - from within their own organizations and together - and how innovation addresses the challenges faced so far. It will also celebrate the one-year anniversary of the launch of the $13 million BetterTogether/JuntosEsMejor Challenge, as well as announce new awardees, and showcase three of the Challenge-funded innovative solutions to the Venezuela regional crisis.

Joining Acting Administrator Barsa will be Mauricio J. Claver-Carone, President of the IDB; Irene Arias Hofman, CEO of IDB Lab; and Marcelo Cabrol, Manager of the IDB Social Sector.

Spotlight speakers include: Daniela Rubio, Crowdsourcing Data for Humanitarian Needs, Premise Data; Jonathan Berezovsky, MigraLab / Roots in the Kitchen, Migraflix; and Cristina Dos Anjos, Migrasegura, Cáritas Brasileira.

The event will be moderated by Katharine Donato, Director of the Institute for the Study of International Migration (ISIM) in the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, with introductions by Joel Hellman, Dean, Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University.
