The following is attributable to Acting Deputy Spokesperson Ryan Essman:

Today, United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Mark Green met with Carlos Vecchio, the Charge d'Affaires at the Venezuelan Embassy in Washington, DC, and the Honorable Julio Borges, Ambassador of Venezuela to the Lima Group. During the meeting, Administrator Green congratulated Charge d'Affaires Vecchio and Ambassador Borges on their recent confirmation by the National Assembly of Venezuela and expressed the United States' support of interim President Juan Guaidó, the National Assembly, and the Venezuelan people.

Administrator Green noted the importance of restoring citizen-responsive democracy in Venezuela. The conversation focused on detailed discussions about relieving the dire humanitarian situation inside Venezuela. The Administrator reiterated Secretary Pompeo's pledge that the United States is ready to provide emergency aid throughout Venezuela, including food and medicine, to help meet the increasing humanitarian need. The discussion today with the Interim President's delegation detailed their requests on behalf of the Venezuelan people. USAID is studying the requests carefully to best mobilize a response.

USAID will continue to coordinate with Interim President Guaidó's team and the National Assembly, as Venezuela makes the transition to freedom and prosperity.
