U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Deputy Administrator Bonnie Glick visited the Republic of Poland from January 26-29, 2020.

Deputy Administrator Glick visited Krakow to attend the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz on January 27, 2020.

In Warsaw, the Deputy Administrator met with young civil-society leaders and emphasized the key role young people can play in advancing positive change by engaging with a wide range of communities and perspectives.

The Deputy Administrator also attended a roundtable on protecting religious and ethnic minorities hosted by the American Jewish Committee.

While in Warsaw, Deputy Administrator Glick also met with the Polish Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honorable Pawel Jablonski, to discuss private-sector engagement, ongoing collaboration to support religious and ethnic minorities in the Republic of Iraq, and efforts to counter malign Kremlin influence in Europe. She thanked the Deputy Minister for the Polish Government's partnership with USAID in Northern Iraq to help communities affected by persecution at the hands of the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). She also expressed hope that USAID and Poland could collaborate on future efforts to support democratic resilience in Europe and Eurasia.

The Deputy Administrator also delivered a speech at the Community of Democracies that highlighted how USAID and the international community can safeguard and strengthen democracies across the world. She emphasized that USAID is committed to fostering resistance to foreign malign actors by strengthening citizen-responsive governance; nurturing dynamic, private enterprise-driven economies; enhancing energy security; and supporting healthy ecosystems for independent media.
