Today, President Trump released his Budget Request for Fiscal Year (FY) 2021, which includes $41 billion for the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). The Budget Request proposes $19.6 billion in funds USAID fully or partially manages to support the President's commitment to serve the needs of American citizens, ensure their safety, promote their prosperity, preserve their rights, and defend their values, as outlined in the National Security Strategy. USAID will use resources in this Budget Request to reduce the reach of conflict, support women's economic empowerment, prevent the spread of infectious disease, and counteract the drivers of violence, instability, and other security threats.

With the Budget Request, USAID will support governments, civil society, and the private sector in our partner countries on the Journey to Self-Reliance, by enabling them to develop, finance and implement solutions to their own development challenges. Meaningful progress on the Journey to Self-Reliance is not possible if gender-based inequalities impede half of the population from realizing their full potential. The President's Budget Request invests in the Women's Global Development and Prosperity Fund at USAID to accelerate progress across all the sectors in which we work, including in peacebuilding, food security, and health. The USAID portion of the President's Budget Request also advances international religious freedom and supports persecuted religious and ethnic minorities, such as historic communities in Northern Iraq and the Rohingya in Bangladesh and Burma. In addition, the President's Budget continues support for our key U.S. allies and partners to bolster participatory, transparent, and inclusive political processes, enhance citizen-responsive governance, and promote human rights and dignity.

The President's Budget Request provides the resources to renew America's competitive advantage for sustained economic growth and job-creation. With the resources in this Budget Request, USAID will implement the Administration's Indo-Pacific Strategy to promote a free, open, and secure Asia, and promote trade and investment in Africa, particularly through the Administration's Prosper Africa initiative. The President's Budget Request will continue the United States' global humanitarian leadership while implementing the restructuring needed to optimize our overseas humanitarian assistance and expecting others to do more.

The Budget increases resources for USAID to help improve global public health and prevent the spread of diseases, such as the outbreak of Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the ongoing emergence of the novel coronavirus 2019-nCoV.

The President's Budget Request for FY 2021 builds the USAID of tomorrow and maximizes the impact of the American tax dollar. USAID will increase the effectiveness of foreign assistance by finishing our internal Transformation, advancing our field-driven Mission, strengthening our technical expertise, and supporting operations and staff around the world. USAID will continue to represent the best of the American people.
