Lawrence Rubey, Mission Director of USAID/Peru attended the inauguration of the Cacao and Coffee Pavilion at the ExpoAlimentaria. This is the biggest food trade fair in Latin America showcasing products from Food & Beverage, Meat, Poultry & Seafood industries.
USAID participated in the Cacao & Coffee Pavilion, through its partners and supporting producer associations who offered coffee and cacao/chocolate products to buyers coming from countries all over the world.
Peruvian cacao and chocolate are recognized worldwide for their diversity, premium quality and unique flavors. This year 2017 at the International Chocolate Awards Americas Competition, 8 Peruvian chocolate companies and 8 international chocolate companies have received 43 medals using Peruvian cacao from 9 different origins.
With regard to coffee, Peru is nowadays a reference point in the world for specialty coffees, being the second largest producer and exporter of organic coffee in the world.
