USAID’s Stop Girl Trafficking project is a $1.5 million, three year project that works closely with girls and women, family guardians and civil society to address girl trafficking through education, awareness, community engagement, and counselling. The project educates school girls as they grow older and move into higher level grades.

This five year (2017-2022), $20 million Niti Sambad program has a central role in achieving USAID/Nepal’s goal of advancing a more democratic, prosperous, and resilient Nepal by strengthening inclusion and participation in political processes. This program will support democratic institutions, strengthen inclusion into political processes and harness political competition as an effective vehicle through which citizens can democratically choose their leaders who will, in turn, set a policy agenda responsive to the needs of the public.

After a decade-long armed conflict, Nepal is making the transition that is both peaceful and prosperous. The promulgation of the new constitution is a great step forward, and as Nepal undertakes major changes to its governance system and state structures, Nepali people often express their dissatisfaction peacefully and other times through violence. The quality of political leadership is crucial in addressing people’s concerns and needs and government work must be transparent and accountable.

To support the US Global Strategy to Empower Adolescent Girls, the U.S. Embassy in Kathmandu undertook this assessment to inform U.S. Government agencies in Nepal about key populations, geographic areas, and types of interventions where additional investments and interventions to empower adolescent girls are likely to make the most impact and correspond with stakeholders’ priorities.

The USAID-supported Fertility Awareness for Community Transformation (FACT) Project is a five-year (2013-2018), global research, intervention, and technical assistance project that is developing and testing unique interventions in Nepal, India, Rwanda, and Uganda.
