The U.S. Agency for International Development is proud to celebrate the contributions of our lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex (LGBTI) staff and our efforts to ensure our programs and policies are inclusive of all people, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, or bodily diversity.
While understanding and acceptance has improved globally, LGBTI people around the world are far too often excluded, marginalized, and subjected to violence and discrimination. These realities can trap LGBTI people in a cycle of poverty, and undermine development efforts.
Inclusion remains one of USAID's core values. To carry out our mission, our programs must reach out to the most-marginalized and vulnerable members of society, and as an Agency we must continue to draw on the skills and contributions of all people. USAID stands with those who promote more-inclusive societies. On behalf of USAID, I wish you a safe and happy Pride Month.
