The Middle East and North Africa has less than 2% of the world’s renewable water supply. In fact, it is the world’s driest region, threatening sustainable agriculture, hydration and sanitation. The American people, through USAID, have been investing in the water sector across the Middle East to improve access to clean water, reduce water losses, facilitate sustainable use of limited resources and improve access to sanitation.

The Regional Agricultural Development Program-East (RADP-East) promotes sustainable agriculture-led economic growth and contributes to the development of a vibrant and prosperous agriculture sector in Ghazni, Kabul, Kapisa, Laghman, Logar, Nangarhar, Parwan, and Wardak Provinces in eastern Afghanistan. The program fosters the expansion of sustainable agriculture-led economic growth to enhance development of a vibrant and prosperous agriculture sector.

USAID supports the Government of Peru’s National Strategy for Combating Drugs by providing alternatives to coca cultivation and strengthening Peruvian capacity confront drug mafias.  This model has been enormously successful and has lifted thousands of rural Peruvian families out of poverty by shifting them away from coca cultivation.
