ASWAN – U.S. Ambassador R. Stephen Beecroft and USAID Mission Director Sherry F. Carlin visited USAID-funded health and agriculture projects in Aswan governorate on Sunday, September 25.

In Al Gaafara village, they met with staff and beneficiaries at a health clinic and then accompanied community health workers on two home visits.  USAID, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and Population, equipped 3,000 community health workers nationwide with the knowledge and skills required to perform their responsibilities and improve the health of their communities.

The delegation met with exporters and farmers in Wadi El Nukra, where they visited fields of basil and peppermint.  They also spoke with farmers participating in a training session on growing green beans to export standards.  Farmers explained how the return on investment has more than doubled since USAID helped them integrate into high-value commercial horticulture markets.

These programs are part of a comprehensive package of technical assistance from the American people that has achieved significant, positive results in health, education, and trade that have improved the lives of millions of Egyptians.  These projects are part of the nearly $30 billion that the American people, through USAID, have invested in Egypt since 1978.
