United States Commits $6 Million in Bilateral Assistance for Egypt

The United States and Egypt, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), signed a bilateral assistance agreement amendment worth $6 million that demonstrates continued support from the American people for joint U.S.-Egypt priorities. This agreement will increase educational opportunities and strengthen the livelihoods of the people of North Sinai.

USAID Deputy Assistant Administrator for the Middle East Andy Plitt met with farmers in Upper Egypt to discuss how they have adapted their farming methods to meet global good agriculture practices.

U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Deputy Assistant Administrator Andrew Plitt and Middle East Affairs Director Jessica Zaman visited Luxor Governorate from Washington this week to reaffirm USAID’s strong partnership with the Egyptian people and support for Egypt’s development priorities.  In a meeting on Tuesday with Luxor Governor Mustafa Mohamed Alhem Khaled, the delegation discussed USAID’s support for Upper Egypt priorities, including water and wastewater services, voluntary family planning, agriculture, and tourism development.

The Center of Excellence for Energy at Ain Shams University opened for business, with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and in close cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The establishment of this new Center is part of the long-standing commitment by the United States to support Egypt’s most important priorities, including producing high-quality applied research in energy, delivering world-class training in engineering, and driving innovation in Egypt’s energy sector, while meeting local challenges and contributing to economic growth.

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and Menoufia University on November 18 inaugurated a new Center for Career Development to help prepare students for the workforce and connect them with jobs. The Menoufia University Center will provide opportunities for students to explore paths to successful careers in established industries, to improve their skills, and to network with Egypt’s leading companies.

On November 18, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), in cooperation with the Beni Suef Potable Water and Sanitation Company and Egypt’s Holding Company for Water and Wastewater, inaugurated a wastewater collection system in Beni Suef. The new system will provide services for more than 17,500 households in Beni Suef.
