BANGKOK, THAILAND  The United States Agency for International Development Regional Development Mission for Asia (USAID/RDMA) launched the two-year, $1.9 million Sustainable Fish Asia (SUFIA) project to improve the management of marine biodiversity and fisheries resources in the Southeast Asia and Pacific regions. 

To address the challenges of illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing practices in the project’s regions, SUFIA aims to enhance the capabilities of the Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral Reefs Fisheries (CTI-CFF) and the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC); and identify private sector  investment in and adoption of sustainable fishing and fair labor practices in Southeast Asia and the Pacific. 

The project is implemented by Research Triangle Institute (RTI) International in concert with SEAFDEC based in Bangkok, Thailand, and CTI-CFF Regional Secretariat based in Manado, Indonesia.

Today, health officials and a local community-based organization opened the first clinic where services designed for men who have sex with men, transgender women and female sex workers will be made available in Thailand’s northern Chiang Rai Province.

Today, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) announced a five-year, $10 million initiative to assist the people and Government of Thailand in their ongoing efforts to counter human trafficking. Implemented by Winrock International and partners, the USAID Thailand Counter Trafficking in Persons (USAID Thailand CTIP) project will examine the scope of trafficked labor, empower at-risk populations and help strengthen victim protection systems.

USAID and Thai Red Cross AIDS Research Centre Partner to Reduce HIV Infection

Today, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), under the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), launched a three-year project with the Thai Red Cross AIDS Research Centre to support 13 provinces with HIV prevention, treatment and care for key populations, including men who have sex with men, transgender women, people who inject drugs and sex workers.

Today, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and GIZ Thailand provided a set of implementation guidelines to Thailand’s Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency, the Metropolitan Electricity Authority, the Provincial Electricity Authority, the Thai Photovoltaic Industries Association and the private sector to support solar rooftop photovoltaics (PV) deployment in Thailand’s commercial and industrial sectors.
