New Technologies Help Save Water at Fish Farms

In Armenia, the fish-farming industry is one of Ararat Valley’s largest consumers of groundwater resources, accounting for approximately 50% of water use.  To stop the loss of valuable water, USAID’s ASPIRED Project collaborated with the Aquaculture Technologies Transfer Center (ATTC) and key government and fish-farming sector representatives to develop a testing site at the Armavir Farmer LLC fish farm.  There, new technologies in water use are being tested and analyzed.  If an innovation is found to be successful, it can be replicated at other fish farms throughout Armenia.  If all fish farmers began using water-saving technologies developed at the ATTC, Armenia will curb the loss of its valuable groundwater resources.
