Sherry F. Carlin currently serves as Mission Director in Jordan, where she leads a team of more than 120 employees on all aspects of economic growth, water, education, health, and democracy and governance programming. Ms. Carlin most recently completed an assignment as Mission Director for Egypt. She also served as Mission Director for the Sri Lanka and Maldives mission.
Ms. Carlin is a member of the Senior Foreign Service with the rank of Career Minister. For the past 26 years, she has been an integral part of USAID’s relief and development efforts and has directed programs in political and economic reforms, trade and investment, governance, rural and institutional development, health, food aid, education, water and wastewater, and infrastructure.
She has completed tours in Egypt (2015-2020), Sri Lanka (2013-2015), West Bank and Gaza (2009-2013 and 2001-2005), Washington, D.C. (2007-2009 and 1998-1999), Pakistan (2005-2007), Central Asian Republics (1999-2002), Armenia (1998-1996), and Georgia (1994-1996). Before joining USAID, Ms. Carlin worked as a coronary care nurse.
A native of Daytona Beach, FL, Ms. Carlin holds an M.S. in national security strategy and certification as a national security professional from the National War College in Washington, D.C., an M.P.H. in health policy, and a B.S. in nursing from Emory University in Atlanta. She is an avid equestrian.
