The United States government shares the Philippine government’s vision for a healthier and more prosperous country. We commend the Philippine government, and the Department of Health, for their unwavering commitment to combat this disease. By eradicating TB and attaining a healthy population, the Philippines will be better positioned to advance into an upper-middle income country and achieve its development goals under Ambisyon Natin 2040.
USAID is the development arm of the U.S. Government. In India, we work in partnership with the Government of India to support its development goals. Our work focuses primarily on delivering quality healthcare, education, safe water, clean energy, sustainable forests, gender equality agriculture and reducing the risk of disasters to a fast growing population. We work in these sectors to contribute to India’s priority development initiatives such as the Swachh Bharat Mission, the Call to Action to End TB, and Padhe Bharat Badhe Bharat. These goals are, of course, closely tied to the global sustainable development goals. Padhe Bharat Bhadhe Bharat is unequivocally linked to the “Quality Education” and “Reduced Inequalities” sustainable development goals. In the same way that all the SDGs and Government of India development priorities are interlinked and cross-sectoral, so too, should be the efforts to achieve them.
USAID is the lead U.S. government agency for international development and disaster assistance. We have been partnering with the Filipino people to advance development in your beautiful country for over 50 years.
I am pleased to join everyone here today at the formal launch of the Online Payments Service for Business Permits in Tagbilaran City.
As educators, you all know how critical reading skills are to establishing the foundations for successful learning and supporting development. Those skills enable the wonder and joy that can come through education, and they are best acquired at an early age. Albert Einstein made the point in a beautiful expression as follows: “It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge.” As teachers, educators, administrators and policy makers, we owe it to our young learners to help them acquire the spark that unleashes their creative spirits and talents.
USAID is addressing the global threat of drug-resistant TB through strategic investments to broaden access to diagnosis and treatment and engaging providers from both the public and private sectors in the most affected communities. USAID works to improve innovative health technologies and patient-centered approaches to care, and advance diagnostic and treatment options. Since 2007, USAID has provided nearly $80 million to support the Philippine Department of Health’s National Tuberculosis Control Program.
Acting DG Toni, Representatives of the Department of Social Services, and all workshop organizers and participants, good morning. It is a pleasure to join you for in opening this event. It is another milestone in the U. S. Ambassador Delawie – thank you for your kind words and more importantly, your leadership and unwavering support to USAID, which enables us to achieve our development mission. To our DCM Colleen, you are a helpful counselor and I value your advice. To Brock, Margot, and Gretchen, thank you for your wisdom and guidance, for always having our back and a warm embrace to all my wonderful colleagues in E&E. But I have to save my warmest embrace to Jim and am so happy that you are at my swearing-in.
On behalf of the U.S. government and Ambassador Malac, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Government of Uganda, and specifically the Ministry of Health and local government, for being here today. I am honoured to join you in celebrating USAID’s renewal of partnerships in support for healthy outcomes in the Lango region. Together, we are stronger in our commitment to address challenges in the Lango sub-region and put forth coordinated solutions to improve Lango’s health systems. Though we are here to celebrate this launch, I also want to express our condolences regarding the losses of esteemed leaders in Lira mentioned earlier.
On behalf of the United States Government, thank you all for joining us to launch these training efforts, which mark an important step forward in addressing gender-based violence and supporting safe learning environments. Gender-based violence remains a grave reality for countless women and youth in Tanzania and around the world, affecting victims regardless of socioeconomic status or background.
The USAID Oceans and Fisheries Partnership was designed to promote transnational collaboration to address illegal, unregulated and unsustainable fishing. And it’s clear from the participation and commitment from everyone gathered here today that you have made that goal a reality.
