U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Acting Assistant Administrator for Democracy Conflict and Humanitarian Assistance Gregory C. Gottlieb will travel to Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, and East Africa March 31-April 7.
In Switzerland, Gottlieb will chair the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs Donor Support Group Meeting. Gottlieb will also travel to Saudi Arabia to continue dialogues with the Organization for Islamic Cooperation, as USAID seeks to broaden its relationship with governments and regional organizations that have emerged as new humanitarian actors and donors. In East Africa, where severe drought and conflict have led to a rapidly deteriorating food security crisis, Gottlieb will meet with various local and national government representatives, donors, NGOs, and other partners. His visit, which comes as USAID continues scaling up emergency assistance in the region, will focus on the international humanitarian response and strengthening national capacity to respond to this and future crises.
