The project will establish the Via Dinarica corridor in BiH as a community-owned and operated rural tourism product that provides sustainable livelihoods for businesses and communities situated along the trails. The program will identify and map value chains along the trails featuring cultural, traditional, natural, and gastronomic products, and integrate them into tourism packages. 

 

On September 17, the Government of the Russian Federation (GoRF) and Government of Turkey (GoT) agreed to establish a 9–15 mile-wide demilitarized zone surrounding Idlib Governorate, separating Syrian Arab Republic Government (SARG) forces from armed opposition groups (AOGs) and militant elements, international media report. The GoT noted that the agreement could prevent the further deterioration of humanitarian conditions by halting or delaying an anticipated SARG offensive on Idlib, which the UN estimates could displace up to 900,000 people in northwestern Syria.

Partnering for Impact in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is a new, three-year program to create employment and self-employment opportunities in Kosovo’s ICT sector.   

The Kosovo Energy Security of Supply (KESS) activity provides technical assistance across the Kosovo energy sector for the design and implementation of energy security projects in the country.

The activity will strengthen the Government of Kosovo’s (GOK) continuing efforts to modernize the country’s existing electricity sector, while building the capacity of the GOK to develop and promote new energy projects and negotiate an implement future energy-sector transactions, in order to provide for a more reliable, cleaner, and affordable electric energy supply. 

The UN estimates that an anticipated Syrian Arab Republic Government (SARG) offensive on Idlib Governorate could displace up to 900,000 people in northwestern Syria due to insecurity and shifting lines of control. In preparation, the UN recently released a Northwestern Response Readiness Plan to provide humanitarian assistance to populations affected by an offensive. Relief organizations—including U.S. Government (USG) partners—are pre-positioning relief commodities and preparing to expand response efforts to mitigate the effects of potential loss of access to affected areas.

Worldwide, USAID is reorienting its development vision towards strengthening its partner countries’ “self-reliance” – that is, each country’s ability to plan, finance, and implement solutions aimed at addressing its own development challenges. To help USAID better understand each country’s progress towards self-reliance, USAID developed the Country Roadmap tool - drawing on 17 public, third party indicators that reflect a country’s “Commitment” and “Capacity” to plan, finance, and manage its own development journey

The Goldozi Project ("Goldozi" is Dari for "Embroidery") is designed to upgrade the skills of and increase access to market information for15,000 vulnerable female embroiderers in and around Kabul, thereby increasing the commercial and export potential of their products. This tested approach will also create a class of over 500 trained and certified sales agents who are equipped with new skills and access to market insights, connect them to embroiderers and other actors along the value chain, and build and promote a strong brand that advertises the authenticity and ethical production of its product lines.

A significant number of foreign fighters come from a combination of Albania and Albanian-majority areas of Kosovo and Macedonia. The Government of Albania (GoA) has taken steps to lead the region in countering/preventing violent extremism. USAID will support the GoA’s efforts to combat religious radicalism and violent extremism through prevention initiatives involving state institutions and agencies operating in the areas of local governance, education, social affairs, youth, employment, and anti-discrimination
