USAID supports the Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) through programs that improve teaching methodologies, introduce contemporary approaches to teaching and learning strategies, and expand the impact of early childhood programming. For high school students and new graduates, USAID supports increased access to educational opportunities and community-based youth programs.
USAID is strengthening the Palestinian Water Authority’s capacity to better operate and maintain its water system by improving infrastructure, as well as providing training and hands-on technical assistance. These efforts will help reduce water losses and improve the sustainable use of limited resources for the growing Palestinian population.
As part of the shared goal to accelerate and sustain inclusive growth in the Philippines, USAID is strengthening the economic competitiveness and resilience of cities outside of Metro Manila through the Cities Development Initiative (CDI).
The Out-of-School Youth Development Alliances (OSYDA) is the key local group that helps shape MYDev programming. It provides critical training and post-training support to OSYs such as civic engagement activities, entrepreneurship, and job placements.
Enhancing Governance Accountability and Engagement (ENGAGE) is a five-year USAID/Philippines project supporting improved governance to build prosperity and stability in the Southern Philippines’ Mindanao region. To achieve this goal, USAID will improve the capacities and practices of Local Government Units (LGUs) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) by promoting good local governance and community involvement, while also providing multi-sectoral developmental support. The project is targeting six conflict-affected areas in Mindanao to strengthen governance and increase civic engagement to encourage peace and facilitate development.
Implemented in close partnership with the Government of the Philippines and local communities, USAID Rebuild focuses on restoring access to education, health services and promoting livelihood activities, and providing technical assistance to the Office of the Presidential Assistant for Rehabilitation and Recovery.
Secretary of State John Kerry announced today the United States is providing more than $290 million in additional U.S. humanitarian assistance to help those affected by the war in Syria. With this additional funding, total U.S. humanitarian assistance since the start of the crisis will reach more than $2 billion, helping over 4.7 million people inside Syria, more than 2.8 million refugees in the region, as well as host communities in the neighboring countries affected by the crisis.
When President Obama took office, the world was in the midst of a food, fuel and financial crisis that brought millions of people to the brink of poverty. In 2007 and 2008, food prices hit all-time highs, putting basic staples such as rice and wheat beyond the reach of the world’s most vulnerable populations. President Obama acted to focus the world on food security and give millions of people a pathway out of hunger and extreme poverty.
The Arangkada Philippines Project (TAPP) is a four-year, Php41 million ($1 million) project – with additional funding from AmCham – started on September 5, 2012, and addresses the PFG intervention theme of regulatory quality is a cooperative agreement with the American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, Inc. (AmCham). It aims to enhance growth of key economic reform sectors, conduct research into economic reforms and advocates for reforms to create a better business environment and strengthen the investment climate.
The Trade-Related Assistance for Development (TRADE) project is a five-year, Php524.8 million ($12.8 million) initiative directed toward improving the Philippines’ global standing in the international economy through higher levels of trade and foreign direct investment.
