DATES: November 2009 - June 2012
PARTNERS: United Nations Office of Project Services (UNOPS)

The objective of this project is to construct two large high schools in Kabul to provide high-quality learning facilities for more than 10,000 boys and girls. Established in 1926, the Ghazi High School was one of the most respected schools in Kabul, with prominent government officials among its alumni, including President Hamid Karzai and former U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad. During the civil war, the school was almost completely destroyed in heavy fighting. The nearby Sardar-e-Kabuli High School provides 58 classrooms and other learning space for students. The new schools were designed to meet international earthquake standards and provide accessibility for disabled students.
