Emanuel, 24 - former warrior from Kaabong: “ When the Jie raiders took all our animals, we were left with nothing. So then my people decided that we are going to get revenge. People died but we kept on raiding and killing. We raided them, and then they raided us -it was like a cycle of revenge.” USAID’s EKISIL program is promoting peace in Uganda’s Karamoja Region with trauma-healing support groups for women and youth. “It was only when I came and joined this group that they told us how to change our behaviors and how to move away from anger how to forgive others and heal our hearts. Now I don’t want to go and raid anymore. I even went back to school. Now I feel peace”
