In August 2015, campers and counterparts came from West Amhara to Addis Kidame to participate in Camp GROW (Growing and Renewing Our World), an annual event that focused on environmental sustainability for future generations by addressing several Feed the Future goals and focusing on high priority environmental issues in a local context. They learned how to increase access to more diverse and nutritious foods through increased knowledge in both small-scale garden production and tree establishment projects. Participants also adopted practices that will lead to conservation and responsible use of natural resources. They learned how to establish tree-nurseries to combat deforestation and soil erosion. Through a variety of environmental activities and initiatives, campers will carry with them the knowledge to evoke real environmental change within their communities, households and schools. USAID has been a strong resource and partner for the Peace Corps.
