Today at the Social Capital Markets conference (SOCAP19), the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and other partners announced the Million Lives Club, a multi-donor initiative that celebrates innovations that are improving the lives of more than one million people who are living on less than $5 a day.

Founded by leading donor organizations, the Million Lives Club is welcoming 44 members to its roster, and is creating a global community of partners committed to innovation and helping innovators reach the next level of impact.  To date, innovations recognized by the Million Lives Club have affected more than 260 million lives; USAID has funded 15 of the innovations previously, which have improved more than 62 million lives.

The Million Lives Club is composed of three cohorts:

  • 31 Vanguard Members:  Those who have affected 1,000,000+ clients directly with their innovations; USAID has funded nine Vanguard members previously
  • Eight Voyager Members:  Those whose innovations are expected to affect 1,000,000+ clients within 18 months; USAID has funded six Voyager members previously; and
  • Five Pioneer Members:  Those whose innovations have scaled to meet the needs of more than 40 percent of their target populations.

The Million Lives Club recognizes that social innovators who have reached transformative numbers of clients can encourage the uptake and scaling of new ideas for global good, everywhere.  The Million Lives Club operates an open application window, and accepts applications on a rolling basis.
