On March 25, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Mark Green swore in Dr. Alma Crumm Golden as USAID's Assistant Administrator for Global Health.

As Assistant Administrator for Global Health, Dr. Golden will oversee USAID's programs to save lives; protect people most vulnerable to disease; and promote high-quality healthcare as the key to the stability of communities and nations, while advancing American security and prosperity.

A pediatrician by training, Dr. Golden has worked extensively in private pediatrics, indigent health services, academic medicine, public health, healthcare administration, and health policy. She served as the Director of Pediatric Services for the Maternal and Child Health Program at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, where she established and managed more than a dozen clinics in South and East Texas that served unfunded, Title V, and Medicaid-supported children and families. During her career, Dr. Golden has also served as faculty at both the University of Texas Medical Branch and the Health Science Center at Texas A&M University.

Dr. Golden has held several key positions in the U.S. Government, including Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Office of Population Affairs in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and Executive Director of USAID's Global Development Lab. Prior to her service in USAID's Global Development Lab, Dr. Golden also served as the Senior Deputy Assistant Administrator in the Bureau for Global Health. She holds a doctoral degree in medicine from the University of Texas Medical Branch.
