U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Senior Deputy Assistant Administrator for the Bureau of Economic Growth, Education, and Environment Michelle Bekkering will lead the U.S. Government Delegation to the 2019 Women 20 (W20) Summit, in Tokyo, Japan March 23-24, 2019. Bekkering concurrently serves as the Agency's Senior Coordinator for Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment.
The W20 will bring together women leaders from civil society, businesses, entrepreneurship ventures, and think tanks with the goal to influence the decision-making bodies of the G20 to change public policies to increase women's participation in the economies and societies of their countries. The main topics covered will be labor equity, digital equity, financial equity, and governance. The W20 will be held in collaboration with the World Assembly for Women (WAW!), Japan's initiative aimed at realizing "the society where women shine." The U.S. Delegation includes representatives from USAID, the Department of State, and the Overseas Private Investment Corporation.
