On Wednesday, June 24, 2020, Publish What You Fund (PWYF) released its Aid Transparency Index (ATI), the only independent assessment of how the world’s major donors perform in letting the public know where they invest taxpayer resources.  PWYF is a non-profit organization based in the United Kingdom that compares information donors make available and ranks the transparency of their aid over time.  

In this year’s Index, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) achieved our best performance yet:  we increased our score by eight points from the last Index in 2018, and are in the top tier of the “Good” category, the second-highest ranking.  This success is a reflection of improvements in the quality of USAID’s data and the increase in the frequency with which we publish health and humanitarian data.   The ATI brief highlighted other significant improvements, including the pilot launch in 10 countries of the Development Information Solution (DIS), and the release of the new Development Cooperation Landscape tool on Foreign Aid Explorer, an interactive visualization, by country, of data USAID reports to the International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI).

USAID continues to work to improve the transparency of our aid, to increase the use of our data by local stakeholders, and to promote the use of IATI data for our internal decision-making processes.  USAID aims to enable stakeholders to find and use the data our programs generate to support the Journey to Self Reliance.
