Today, I am pleased to announce that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has fulfilled President Trump’s promise to deliver nearly 9,000 ventilators to 43 countries, plus the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
This remarkable achievement was possible only because of the ingenuity and generosity of the American people and the innovation of U.S. private industry. USAID played a pivotal role in providing these ventilators to benefit patients with COVID-19 in our partner countries. When a global health crisis arises, America Acts, and we at USAID are committed to ensuring we improve the ability to prevent, detect, and respond to outbreaks of infectious diseases in our partner countries while keeping Americans safe at home.
Over the past two decades, the United States has provided more than $140 billion in global health assistance, and is the single largest contributor to the international response to the pandemic of COVID-19.
