Statement from Acting Administrator John Barsa

For Immediate Release

Friday, April 17, 2020

On behalf of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), I would like to extend warm wishes to Christian communities that are celebrating Easter -- both members of Western Churches who observed Easter last Sunday, April 13, 2020, and of Eastern Churches who will do so this coming Sunday.

During Easter, Christians solemnize the promise of Hope, a longing that lies in the universal heart of the human person: hope for freedom of the enslaved and downtrodden, hope for new beginnings and second chances, and hope for a brighter future, not only for individuals but for all of humanity.

USAID shares this yearning as we work on behalf of the American people to promote human development and assistance in the service of universal human dignity. We are grateful for the many contributions of the Christian community in service of the marginalized, and proud to work shoulder-to-shoulder with the many Christian aid and development organizations that bring life-giving and life-saving support to communities most in need.
