Through this $10.25 million grant to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), USAID is supporting the education of Temporarily Displaced Persons (TDPs) from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and the education of children from communities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Province, which are hosting these TDP families.  This project encourages community engagement, supports the construction and rehabilitation of approximately 300 public schools in the FATA and KP province, and aims to train approximately 1,000 teachers for these schools.  Approximately 50,000 children, including 10,000 girls, are expected to benefit from this project.

OBJECTIVES

The main objective of this project is to support resettlement efforts by improving the quality of education for 50,000 TDPs from the FATA and children within the hosting communities in KP province.  This objective supports the Government of Pakistan's goals as outlined in the FATA Sustainable Return and Rehabilitation Strategy. 

MAIN ACTIVITIES

• Construct and rehabilitate approximately 300 schools in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.
• Provide supplies and equipment to all 300 target schools.
• Train approximately 1,000 teachers for these schools.
• Establish approximately 300 parent-teacher councils, to encourage community engagement in children's education.
