Through an inter-agency agreement with USAID, the U.S. Department of Commerce provides legal and regulatory technical assistance to Pakistan 's public and private sectors.  The U.S. Department of Commerce provides this assistance through its Commercial Law Development Program, International Trade Administration, Special American Business Internship Training, and Foreign Commercial Service offices.  The Commercial Development Program assists government ministries, the judiciary, regulators, academia and the private sector to improve commercial legal, policy, regulatory, and operating environments.  The program also aims to expand business opportunities between Pakistan and the United States.  The program fosters Pakistan's export and economic diversification while delivering best practices in business development.  

OBJECTIVES

The Commercial Development Program aims to improve policy, legal, regulatory, and institutional business environments to promote business opportunities between Pakistan and the United States.

MAIN ACTIVITIES

  • Transfer knowledge on Intellectual Property Law for Technology.
  • Improve the environment for commercial law and commercial law education.
  • Conduct training through the Special American Business Internship Training Program on supply chain, gems and jewelry, technology, U.S.franchising, and packaging.
  • Engage in outreach through business roundtables to promote bilateral investment between the United States and Pakistan.
  • Enhance the capacity of the Competition Commission of Pakistan, the Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan, the Ministry of Commerce, and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority in investment, business, and trade promotion.
  • Build capacity on energy sector regulations and administration in oil and gas.
