Empowering Malians through Election, Reform and Governance Efforts (EMERGE) is a project co-funded by USAID and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). With a budget of $16.2 million, the EMERGE Project aims to advance peace, reconciliation, and more accountable governance through credible and inclusive national elections. EMERGE provided support for the presidential election in 2018 and will be providing similar support for the upcoming legislatives elections scheduled for March 29 and April 19. EMERGE will support the following activities:

PROMOTE CITIZEN PARTICIPATION IN THE 2020 LEGISLATIVES ELECTIONS

  • The platform of CSOs called CEPE (Public Engagement Charter for Emergence) conducted door-to-door campaigns in Bamako, Mopti, and Sikasso focused on motivating citizens to register to vote and to verify their registration information.
  • The project recently finalized and shared findings from a national poll conducted at the end of 2019, which gathered data on electoral process engagement and citizen perceptions from over 2,028 respondents.
  • EMERGE will conduct a coordinated national get out the vote campaign for the upcoming legislative elections.
  • Internews will publish its Golden Rules of Journalism - 20 rules for local radios on conflict-sensitive journalism during elections period, in collaboration with the agency responsible for regulating television and radio transmission operations in Mali (Union des Radios et Télévisions Libres du Mali, URTEL) and will train 10 radio community stations and women journalists. With these 20 rules, local radio will be able to produce and disseminate more professional and credible reports on electoral process.
