On Friday, March 31, Ethio Resource Group PLC, a grantee of the U.S. African Development Foundation (USADF), officially commissioned Ethiopia’s first privately-owned wind-powered mini-grid at a ceremony attended by officials from the federal and woreda (district) governments as well as other key stakeholders.
The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) today announced the successful completion of the U.S.-funded Urban HIV Nutrition and Food Security Project. Over the past five years, the project improved the nutritional, economic, and food security status of people living with HIV. The project increased school enrollment of food-insecure orphan and vulnerable children from 80 to 97 percent, and boosted the participation of pregnant and lactating women living with HIV in services aimed at eliminating mother-to-child transmission of HIV.
Tuberculosis, or TB, continues to be a major global health concern and one of the top 10 causes of deaths worldwide. The World Health Organization reported that during 2015, 10.4 million people became ill with TB and 1.8 million died from the disease! This indicates that globally, TB has surpassed HIV/AIDS as a major cause of mortality.
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia - The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Management Sciences for Health, and the Ministry of Health marked the successful completion of USAID’s System for Improved Access to Pharmaceuticals and Services Activity. The activity strengthened pharmaceutical management, supported the development of treatment guidelines and health facility standards, and reduced waste and corruption in the pharmaceutical sector. The result was improved access to quality pharmaceutical services that ensure the safe, appropriate and cost-effective use of medicines to achieve better health outcomes for Ethiopians.
Africa Sustainable Livestock 2050 (ASL2050) launched today in Addis Ababa, encouraging governments to think beyond livestock today, for the people of tomorrow. ASL2050 is a cross-sectoral initiative analysing the impact of a growing livestock sector on public health, the environment, and livelihoods.
