The updated GH Environmental Management Process Training course.

Learners can now access the recently updated “Bureau for Global Health Environmental Management Process Training” course online. Updates include revised course material to reflect the Bureau for Global Health’s (GH) transition to the use of the USAID Global Templates for the Reg. 216 process, as well as other improvements, including new references and resources. While the course is required training for some USAID staff, Implementing Partners and other interested parties are also invited to enroll in this free, online course!

Learners who have previously completed the course are not required to re-take it, though they are encouraged to do so to access new tools and resources and learn about the course updates, including:

  • Revised content to reflect the use of USAID Global Templates for GH projects
  • New content to clarify the different steps of the GH Reg. 216 process
  • New and revised tools on the References tab, including a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) document on GH environmental documentation requirements
  • Updated links to resources, glossary terms, and more

Background on the Course

This online training provides GH Program Managers, Agreement Officer’s Representatives/Contracting Officer’s Representatives (AORs/CORs), Activity Managers, and other stakeholders with an introduction to the GH Reg. 216 process, which is also known as the Initial Environmental Examination (IEE) process. The course also provides a roadmap for planning and implementing health programs in accordance with the Agency’s legal requirements. Other key objectives of the course include ensuring that learners are able to:

  • Identify applicable legal and policy guidelines governing the GH environmental compliance program
  • Explain the importance of following the IEE process
  • Describe the GH IEE process, including the use of a hypothetical case study to illustrate key steps
  • Understand the roles and responsibilities involved in the IEE process
  • Explain the relationship between environmental screening and Threshold Decisions
  • Describe how environmental monitoring and oversight should be performed
  • Identify where IEE documentation should be stored

Learners may complete the self-paced course in one sitting or over multiple sessions and will need approximately two hours to complete it. In order to receive a certificate of completion, learners must complete the course and receive a score of 80% or higher on the final assessment. USAID staff, such as AORs/CORs, who complete this course may claim two Continuous Learning Points (CLPs). Please visit the Office of Acquisition and Assistance’s Certifications and Career Development page for more information.

New users can register for GH eLearning Center accounts by clicking here. USAID credentials are not required to register. If you have any questions or feedback related to the course, please contact ghcompliancesupport@usaid.gov.
