    The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) is an international plant health agreement, established in 1952, that aims to protect cultivated and wild plants by preventing the introduction and spread of pests.

  • Executive Order 13751 - Safeguarding the Nation From the Impacts of Invasive Species
    This executive order directs member agencies (including USAID) of the National Invasive Species Council (NISC) to consider human and wildlife health, climate change, and innovations in science and technology when working on issues relevant to invasive species.
     
  • National Invasive Species Council (NISC), created by Executive Order 13112
    NISC membership resides with the highest level of federal leadership (including USAID). The overarching duty of the Council is to provide the high-level vision and leadership necessary to sustain and expand Federal efforts to safeguard interests of the United States by preventing, eradicating, and controlling invasive species, as well as restoring ecosystems and other assets impacted by invasive species.

    The goal of this Guide is to provide national law- and policy-makers with practical information and guidance for developing or strengthening legal and institutional frameworks on alien invasive species, consistent with the Convention on Biological Diversity, as well as pertinent obligations under other international and regional instruments. The Guide focuses on the need for cooperation and coordination between the various sectors and policy-makers in order to effectively address the problem of alien invasions.
