Micronutrients, or vitamins and minerals needed in small quantities, are essential for good nutrition, proper growth and development, and overall health. Their deficiency contributes to extensive health problems and death throughout low-income countries, afecting millions of people globally each year. The negative impacts of these deficiencies, however, are not easily perceived because clinical signs appear only under extreme situations.
