U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Acting Administrator John Barsa visited the Arab Republic of Egypt from October 6 to 8, 2020, to emphasize the commitment of the United States to international religious freedom and inclusive development. Deputy Assistant to the President (DAP) Sarah Makin and USAID Chief Advisor for International Religious Freedom Samah Norquist also joined the Acting Administrator in Egypt.
We are excited to announce that USAID, through the generosity of the Trump Administration, is contributing an additional $22.8 million to improve Egypt’s investment climate by supporting effective and transparent public institutions, increasing women’s participation in the labor force, and ensuring that all Egyptians benefit from essential services.
Today the United States, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and the Arab Republic of Egypt, through the Ministry of International Cooperation, signed an addendum to their five-year bilateral assistance agreement for Inclusive Economic Governance that provides an additional $22.8 million in funding. In line with Egypt's Vision 2030, this new commitment is intended to improve the investment environment and empower women to join the labor force in Egypt.
U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Acting Administrator John Barsa traveled to the Republic of Kenya October 3-6, 2020, to highlight three recent investments in Kenyan women made by the White House-led Women's Global Development and Prosperity (W-GDP) initiative. He also announced the donation of 200 American-made ventilators to support the Kenyan people during their response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and underscored the paramount importance of maintaining accountability and transparency with all U.S. Government assistance. During his visit, Acting Administrator Barsa also highlighted the U.S. Government's commitment to religious freedom and USAID-funded community-based conservation programs in the Maasai Mara.
The United States, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), announced a new, three-year Local Works program that will provide up to $7 million to support local communities in the Mara landscape and Northern and Coastal Kenya as they recover from the loss of tourism and livelihoods because of the pandemic of COVID-19. USAID Acting Administrator John Barsa and U.S. Ambassador Kyle McCarter announced the program during a visit to the Naboisho Conservancy.
