United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Deputy Administrator Bonnie Glick traveled to Indiana to announce a new USAID partnership with Purdue University and meet with private-sector and university leaders in Indianapolis and West Lafayette August 12-13.
On August 12, Deputy Administrator Glick met with President and CEO of Elanco Jeff Simons at the company's headquarters to discuss enterprise-driven approaches to antibiotic resistance and other emerging threats to animal health that adversely impact food security and well-being.
On August 13, Deputy Administrator Glick participated in a roundtable hosted by the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition that focused on USAID's role in advancing the country's economic and national security.
Deputy Administrator Glick then traveled to West Lafayette to meet with the LASER Partners for University-Led Solutions Engine (LASER PULSE) program to discuss the important role universities and researchers play as partners in development. Purdue University leads the LASER PULSE consortium in establishing a dynamic and open network of university-based researchers across the countries and technical sectors where USAID works.
Deputy Administrator Glick then toured a food science facility and phenotyping lab at Purdue University and met with university researchers working with Feed the Future Innovation Labs to discuss innovative approaches to solving food security challenges.
After meeting with University President Mitch Daniels, Deputy Administrator Glick joined him in launching the new Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Food Safety at Purdue University, which is USAID's first-ever lab dedicated to food safety.
