The Permanent Okavango River Basin Commission (OKACOM) and USAID Southern Africa jointly launched USAID’s Resilient Waters Program in Angola Menongue on September 24th, 2019. The launch was held on the back of a Republic of Angola Ministry of Energy and Water half-day workshop on general water resource regulation. The launch brought together 45 local stakeholders from Luanda and Menongue including representatives from the Ministry of Energy and Water (as well as Vice Governor of the Cuando Cubango Province, Dr Sara Luísa Mateus), community-based organizations (CBOs) - such as ACADIR, Halo Trust, and National Geographic, representatives from the Kavango Zambesi Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZA), and members of the Okavango River Basin Commission Steering Sommittee (OBSC).
In Angola's Luanda province, health centers were experiencing stock level challenges. The National Institute for the Fight Against AIDS (INLS) had been prioritizing distribution of anti-retroviral medicines (ARVs) and rapid test kits (RTKs) based on geographic coverage rather than on caseload information. A monitoring and evaluation review of caseload data showed that Luanda province was receiving fewer ARV and RTKs than was required to meet the need.
Angola’s Health for All (HFA) Project, supported by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), welcomed global health expert, Dr. Alaine Nyaruhirira, for a week-long training on the use of GeneXpert – technology that has become a game-changer in the fight against tuberculosis (TB).
Peer Educators Training. It is the first day, time for each peer educator-to-be to introduce themselves to the group. Claudia* is nervous and apprehensive as she has never spoken in public before, let alone as a sex worker. With the help from the facilitator, she manages to say a few words, though her voice trembles almost inaudibly as her gaze faces the floor.
VectorWorks is a global malaria prevention project, funded by the President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI). The purpose of the VectorWorks project is to support countries to achieve and maintain high levels of coverage and use of insecticide-treated mosquito nets (ITNs) as well as to facilitate the adoption of proven alternative vector management interventions, including those targeting specific sites or populations.
