Bruce Abrams
Mission Director

Starting July 31, 2020, Bruce Abrams takes the lead as Mission Director of the United States Agency for International Development in Mexico. He has been at post since July 2019, serving as Deputy Mission Director.

Prior to serving as Deputy Mission Director, Mr. Abrams served as Deputy Assistant Administrator in USAID’s Middle East Bureau from 2017 to 2019, where he oversaw USAID programs in Yemen, Tunisia, Morocco, and Libya, as well as the Middle East Regional Platform in Frankfurt, Germany. A member of the Senior Foreign Service, Mr. Abrams has been a USAID Foreign Service Officer since 1999, having served as a Democracy, Rights and Governance Officer in Colombia (2000-03), Iraq (2004), Egypt (2004-09) and Peru (2009-13), before serving as Deputy Mission Director in Zimbabwe(2013-16).

Prior to joining USAID, he was a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer in Hungary and a USAID Personal Services Contractor with USAID Missions in Hungary and Serbia. Mr. Abrams holds a B.A. in History from Boston University and a Master’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA).
