BACKGROUND
The Public Private Dialogue activity is a four-year, $1.76 million initiative to build effective and sustainable public-private collaborations between the Government, private sector, and civil society to improve the business enabling environment and generate more dynamic and sustainable economic growth.
ACTIVITIES
The project has established a Public Private Dialogue Hub to foster the culture of using dialogue to inform essential economic reforms. Seven organizations advocate for sector-specific reforms and provide mentorship.
• Encouraging an environment for constructive dialogue with project partners by building knowledge, trust, motivation, and capacity of relevant entities
• Implementing innovative public-private dialogue instruments and mechanisms to address development challenges
• Ensuring integration and sustainability of public-private dialogue values and mechanisms
• Implementing an outreach and advocacy campaign to institutionalize public-private dialogue and achieve high-priority business environment reforms
RESULTS
- Completed First Annual Survey on Public-Private Dialogue in Serbia
- Formed thematic working groups comprised of public and private sector representatives to advocate for sector-specific reforms. These included improving the system of presumptive taxation, working to protect Serbia’s bee population from poisoning and developing policy around organic food production. Outreach campaigns were held for each of these topics to help mobilize support for the initiatives
- Trained members of thematic working groups to be able to competently engage in public-private dialogue
- Collected input and formulated proposed reforms for the flat rate taxation system. Also, together with the Tax Authority they prepared the tax calculator which is being launched on their jpd.rs website.
- Selected partner organizations advocated for additional priority reform topics, monitoring public procurements, improving Serbia’s wastewater management system, and educating teachers and pupils to meet the demands of the digital era
