The USAID-funded C5+1 National and Regional Adaptation Planning activity seeks to increase the capacity of Central Asian countries to engage in climate change adaptation planning. The United States provides technical assistance to key stakeholders and coordinates with development assistance partners to support each country’s national and cross-border adaptation planning process under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
The Government of Uzbekistan Ministry of Public Education is committed to an ambitious program of systematic and comprehensive reforms. Uzbekistan is working to create an education system that can produce graduates with the critical thinking, problem solving, and practical skills that will enable them to succeed. The reform agenda is intended to transform the instructional practices of the teaching workforce, moving away from a focus on rote and fact learning toward enhancing students’ ability to apply knowledge.
Through the INSPIRE program, USAID works to empower BiH citizens and government institutions to improve overall human rights protections, services, and employment prospects for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s most vulnerable persons.
Through this project, USAID helps BiH increase transparency and reduce corruption in targeted government-led processes, focusing on digitalization as a tool for fighting corruption. USAID’s implementing partner for this five-year $10.9 million project is Millennium Partners.
USAID’s Export Led Growth activity is a five-year activity that aims to promote resilient, self-sustaining market systems and to facilitate the private sector’s improved competitiveness in local, regional, and global markets. The activity will utilize a market systems approach aligned with USAID’s Private Sector Engagement Policy, and will focus in three key export-oriented sectors—wood processing, food processing, and Information and Communications Technologies (ICT)—to increase their competitiveness sustainably.
The Leader for People Living with HIV activity works to strengthen the capacity of civil society in Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, and Tajikistan to more effectively address stigma and discrimination, advocate for equitable access to comprehensive prevention, treatment, and care, and address human rights issues affecting people living with HIV (PLHIV).
The USAID-funded Smart Waters program builds a cadre of professionals in Central Asia and Afghanistan, capable of managing shared water resources to maximize the economic value of water in the face of climate change and other pressures, understand the value of such practices, and trust each other. It bridges policy-level water management discussions with practical on-the-ground implementation, expanding opportunities for key water managers, students, researchers, policymakers, and end-users to network and share information.
The Justice Activity is a five-year program that aims to strengthen Kosovo’s justice system by applying a people-centered justice approach to improve institutional capacity to provide people access to quality services and multiple means to solve their justice needs and everyday legal problems, and to generate greater public trust in the justice system and the rule of law. Kosovo Youth Dialogue Activity aims to empower young people from all communities in Kosovo. Specifically, the activity focuses on the active participation of Kosovo-Albanian and Kosovo-Serb youth in dealing with the past and reconciliation processes by encouraging inter-ethnic communication, interaction, and cooperation; addressing common interests; building confidence; and promoting mutual understanding and positive attitudes.
