USAID is the development arm of the U.S. Government. In India, we work in partnership with the Government of India to support its development goals. Our work focuses primarily on delivering quality healthcare, education, safe water, clean energy, sustainable forests, gender equality agriculture and reducing the risk of disasters to a fast growing population. We work in these sectors to contribute to India’s priority development initiatives such as the Swachh Bharat Mission, the Call to Action to End TB, and Padhe Bharat Badhe Bharat. These goals are, of course, closely tied to the global sustainable development goals. Padhe Bharat Bhadhe Bharat is unequivocally linked to the “Quality Education” and “Reduced Inequalities” sustainable development goals. In the same way that all the SDGs and Government of India development priorities are interlinked and cross-sectoral, so too, should be the efforts to achieve them.

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the American Chamber of Commerce in India (AMCHAM India) today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen the growing partnership between the U.S. Government and U.S. private sector to address India’s development needs.
The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Dewan Housing Finance Corporation Limited (DHFL) today officially announced the signing of a $10-million loan portfolio guarantee in an effort to improve access to capital for healthcare providers in Tier II & Tier III cities. Through the risk-sharing agreement signed between USAID and DHFL, the Mumbai-based lender will be able to provide up to $10 million to small- and medium-sized enterprises operating in health sector in India, prioritizing lending to women entrepreneurs.

U.S. assistance in India helps advance this shared agenda by engaging a range of stakeholders to end extreme poverty and increase citizens’ access to quality health care, potable water, education and clean energy.
