Many hundreds of millions of dollars have been generously provided to alleviate suffering and fostering economic development. But they are being robbed of their full value by crisis, conflict, and poor governance. Last year alone, America's foreign assistance for the DRC exceeded $546 million. Our humanitarian contributions totaled more than $209 million. The agency that I'm privileged to lead, the United States Agency for International Development, contributed more than $130 million worth of food assistance and more than $136 million for health programs.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) concluded a two-day workshop in Baghdad with 33 organizations seeking to create and design activities together that will assist in the voluntary return of displaced Iraqis to the Ninewa Plain and western Ninewa, and to encourage those who are already in their communities to remain.

On March 19, U.S. Agency for International Development Administrator Mark Green will travel to New York City, New York to attend a United Nations Security Council Briefing on the humanitarian situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Administrator Green will be calling on the international community to join the United States as it prepares to scale up assistance to reach the more than 13 million people in need of urgent humanitarian aid in DRC, where political instability and conflict have created one of the world's most pressing global crises.

On Friday, March 9, 2018, United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Mark Green hosted a Forum on Preventing Sexual Misconduct, which brought together senior USAID staff; the USAID Inspector General; and representatives from key partners, including non-governmental organizations, for-profit contractors, and United Nations agencies. Administrator Green reiterated the Agency's commitment to zero tolerance for sexual misconduct, and emphasized that USAID and its partners must share a commitment to the values of inclusion, integrity, dignity, and respect. The Administrator stressed that USAID and its partners have an obligation, as well as a moral imperative, to protect beneficiaries, especially children, young women, and other vulnerable populations.

Today, USAID Administrator Mark Green and Advisor to the President Ivanka Trump launched USAID's latest initiative to empower women around the world, the WomenConnect Challenge.  The Challenge will identify and support solutions to increase the access to, and the use of, digital technology, by women and girls to drive positive health, education, and livelihood outcomes for themselves and their families.

U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Mark Green met yesterday with the United Nations (UN) Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Mark Lowcock, who serves as UN Emergency Relief Coordinator and head of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). Administrator Green expressed the U.S. Government's support for OCHA's ongoing reform process, and the importance of pursuing strong initiatives to prevent sexual exploitation and abuse in the humanitarian sector.

This will be Assistant Administrator Bierman's first visit to the region since joining USAID earlier this year.

United States Agency for International Development Administrator Mark Green will travel to Germany and to the United Kingdom February 14-20.

In Germany, he will participate in the annual Africa Strategic Integration Conference (ASIC) in Garmisch, and also meet with USAID Mission Directors from the Middle East and Africa. He will then travel to Munich to attend the 2018 Munich Security Conference.
